Genghis Con 5th Round Batrep vs. Tyranids

So the final round was versus Tyranids. The primary win condition was to have the most killpoints within 6" of the table center. This looked like a no win situation for me as my opponent could simply march his whole army up towards the center of the table. Deployment was Pitched Battle.

Here is my opponent's army as best as I can remember:

Hive Tyrant
3x Tyrant Guard
Prime - dual bone swords

3x Zoanthrope
3x Hive Guard

Trygon
Biovore

Tervigon
10x termagant
Tervigon
10x termagant
10x termagant

Genghis Con 4th Round Batrep vs. Mech Eldar

My fourth game in the GT was versus mech eldar and the mission was Seize Ground with six objectives, each objective had to be at least 12" away from any other marker so basically you end up with two rows of fairly evenly spaced markers. Deployment was Dawn of War.

I've always had a psychological disconnect versus mechdar because the army is very fast and can counter the speed of a DoA army. This was a tough mission for me but I had a couple of advantages:

1) I won the roll for deployment and opted to go second.
2) My only unit to arrive on the bottom of the 2nd turn was the VV which greatly reduced the amount of shooting from the eldar army.

I viewed the game more like a chess match using my movement phases to keep spread out across the table and then made my big move on the bottom of the 6th turn to take and contest objectives. It all came down to the VV... they had to wreck a Wave Serpent full of Dire Avengers to deny the eldar that objective so I would hold one more than my opponent. I was hitting on sixes and one hit got through with the sergeant's thunderhammer - I wrecked the Wave Serpent and just managed to win the game by that one objective... So I would be playing the final match versus Tyranids on the second table. I'll go into a lot more detail regarding the final. Like I said the fourth game was mostly movement so I don't see much of a point in breaking it down turn by turn.

Genghis Con 3rd round batrep vs. Space Wolves

Here is the third batrep versus Space Wolves. You know you're gonna have to face them sooner or later. The primary mission goal was Victory Points and deployment was Pitched Battle. If you destroyed your opponent's highest point unit they counted as double their victory points! My opponent is a friend I see a lot when playing on the road so I knew we would have some fun for sure. This was the first game of the second day. Here is his army list to the best of my recollection:

Rune Priest #1: Living Lightning & JAWS
Rune Priest #2: Murderous Hurricane & JAWS

Note
Jump infantry is immune to Jaws of the World Wolf so that kind of neutered his two HQ. I used to Dante's curse to nerf the Rune Priest with Murderous Hurricane hoping he would eventually Peril and die from an exploded head (think the movieScanners).

10x Wolfguard terminators: 8x( power sword & stormbolter) & 2x (cyclone missile launcher & power fist) <- most expensive unit 5x Grey Hunter: meltagun & plasma pistol - razorback: twin linked heavy bolter turret (Rune Priest #1 attached) 5x Grey Hunter: plasmagun & plasma pistol - razorback: twin linked heavy bolter turret 8x Grey Hunter: plasmagun & power sword - drop pod 6x Long Fang: 4x missile launcher & lascannon 6x Long Fang: 4x missile launcher & lascannon 5x Long Fang: 3x missile launcher & lascannon - razorback: twin linked heavy bolter turret (Rune Priest #2 attached)

Genghis Con batreps - 2nd Match versus Necrons

The second mission I was paired off against a Necron army. My opponent had some really hot dice in the first two turns and I was feeling nervous. The Mission objective was Capture and Control with Pitched Battle for deployment. My opponent won the roll for deployment and chose to go second. I remembered some advice from DV8 over on the Bolter and Chainsword Blood Angels forum and followed it. I placed my objective in a table corner as far away as possible from where I thought he'd deploy his army and held everything in reserve. My plan was to flank him on two sides and sweep in taking his objective placed in the middle of his DZ.

Genghis Con batreps - Blood Saints DoA

Here is my first batrep. I apologize that I don't take pictures when I play now. All opponent's army lists are to the best of my recollection.

Note
This was my best performance in a GT. Lady Luck smiled upon me when I needed the rolls. All five of my opponents were fantastic - no rules disputes and five very fun games. I don't think you could ask for more.

So onward HO !!!

Last batrep vs. Mech IG

Here is the third and final batrep. The game was versus mech IG. Please forgive me for not remembering every detail about the IG army - I'll try to be as concise as possible...

Command squad: astropath, 3x plasma - Chimera: multi laser & heavy flamer
Command squad: 3x plasma - Chimera: multi laser & heavy flamer

Manticore
Manticore

Leman Russ Demolisher x2 (squadron)

PSB - Chimera: multi laser & heavy flamer
PSB - Chimera: multi laser & heavy flamer

Veteran squad: 3x meltagun - Chimera: multi laser & heavy flamer
Veteran squad: 3x meltagun - Chimera: multi laser & heavy flamer
Veteran squad: 2x flamer - Chimera: multi laser & heavy flamer
Veteran squad: 2x flamer - Chimera: multi laser & heavy flamer
Platoon: HWS, Commissar/power sword

The mission was objectives with a total of six (each numbered 1 through 6); on the start of the third turn you rolled 1d6 - then remove the objective with that number. The objectives were placed all equidistance from each other, both in a line about 12" apart on each side. I won the roll and opted to go second. Deployment was Pitched Battle again and I held my entire army in reserve. One of the assault squad sergeants received the Blessing. The Chaplain and second Priest joined that unit (here after referred to as the super squad).

2nd batrep - DoA vs. SW

The next round was versus Space Wolves. The TO made a couple bad calls which he reversed the next day so no bad feelings. Everyone makes mistakes.

Here is the SW list to the best of my memory:

Iron Priest on Thunderwolf mount w. Cyberwolves

tooled up Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf mount

1st batrep from local RTT * pure jump infantry DoA

I had the opportunity to play in a local RTT this past Saturday. Here is the list I ran:

HQ
> Commander Dante
> The Sanguinor

Elites
> Sanguinary Priest: jump pack, power sword (attached to Dante & Sanguinary Guard)
> Sanguinary Priest: jump pack, power sword & infernus pistol (attached to assault squad)
> Chaplain: jump pack & infernus pistol (attached to assault squad)

Troops
> Sanguinary Guard: 2x infernus pistol, power fist & Chapter Banner
> 10x assault Marine: flamer/meltagun; sergeant: thunderhammer & stormshield
> 10x assault Marine: flamer/meltagun; sergeant: thunderhammer & stormshield

Fast Attack
> 6x Vanguard veterans (jump packs): 2x (lightning claw & stormshield), pair of lightning claws, thunderhammer & stormshield, power sword & bolt pistol; sergeant: power fist & stormshield

1st Battle
The first mission was versus a semi mechanized eldar army. Here is the list to the best of my memory:

Avatar
Kadrandas
10x Striking Scorpions
10x Wraithguard & Spiritseer
6x Guardian jetbikes w. 2x Shuriken cannons
10x Storm Guardians - Wave Serpent
Wraithlord
Falcon
Falcon

The mission was as follows:

* Deployment - Spearhead
* Nightfight all game (w00t!!!)
* Five objectives - one in the center of the table and one in the center of each table quarter; scatter each objective 2d6 after deployment; any unit within 6" of an objective could be automatically spotted.

I won the roll and opted to go second holding my entire army in reserve. ;) One assault squad succumbed to the Red Thirst and the other assault squad their sergeant received the Sanguinor's Blessing. I attached the second Priest and the Chaplain to the assault squad with the super sergeant. My opponent deployed his entire army except for the Phoenix Lord attached to the Scorpions who would outflank. Note that my opponent had not played for a long time and was having some difficulties confusing 4ed with 5ed. >.< He setup most of his army close to the middle of the table while deploying the two Falcons and Storm Guardians back along his table edge. His first two turns he moved the jet bikes, Wraithguard and Avatar towards my table edge. The Wraithlord he split off from the main group to support the two Falcons. The beginning of the second turn the Phoenix Lord and his Aspect Warriors came in on the far table edge (wrong side).

On the bottom of the second turn I rolled for reserves and in came Dante with a Priest and the Sanguinary Guard, the Sanguinor, Vanguard veterans and the assault squad with Red Thirst. Dante and his posse dropped behind a building along with the Sanguinor ready to pop out and assault the main force of the eldar. The Sanguinor chose the Avatar as his vengeful target. My Vanguard vets came in an drifted back 6" which just brought them outside of assault range so I ran them back hoping to keep them outside the range of those nasty Wraithcannons. I took a risk with the assault squad landing them behind the Wave Serpent carrying the Storm Guardians - I rolled a hit and they destroyed the serpent with a shot from the single meltagun into the rear end. The Guardians spilled out, took some wounds and failed their morale check. Definitely a good second turn. :)

Top of the third the jetbikes moved up to shoot Dante and his posse (heh). The Wraithguard moved up to target the VV. :( His other units were too far off to spot anything and the Avatar was well outside of assault range. The jetbikes fired and did enough wounds to just kill the Priest. :( The Vv's stormshields were able to absorb the shots from the Wraithguard. :) The Wraithguard then charged the VV and suffered several losses due to the power fist and thunderhammer.

Bottom of the third turn in came the assault squad with super sarge and friends. Dante and his posse moved up to assault the jetbikes while the Sanguinor moved up to assault the Avatar. The first assault squad moved into position to assault the Storm Guardians while the second assault squad dropped in behind a Falcon and blew it sky high with their meltas. Dante and his Sanguinary Guard shredded the jetbikes, the Sanguinor dropped two wounds on the Avatar while taking no wounds and the first assault squad shredded the Storm Guardians. The VV also dropped a few more Wraithguard and lost one vet. Definitely another very good turn for the Blood Saints again. :)

Over the course of the remaining game the Sanguinor dropped the Avatar, Dante and the Sanguinary Guard joined the fight with the VV versus the Wraithguard and the assault squad with super sarge and friends pulverized the Wraithlord. The Phoenix Lord and his Scorpions were the only eldar survivors coming in on the wrong side and too far away from the action. I ended the first round with a massacre.

Next up - Space Wolves...

Blood Saints vs. Chaozilla * BB II test mission batrep

I had a great battle today versus another a player testing their new CSM list for BB II. A sleek black cat in the house kept rubbing against my leg when i rolled hte dice. We randomly rolled for teh third mission:

3x 8Khorne Berserkers incl. Champion w. Power sword - rhino
3x 8Khorne Berserkers incl. Champion w. Power sword - rhino
5x CSM - rhino

= Blood Saints vs. Chaozilla =

> CSM won the deployment roll and chose to go first deploying in a tight castle with the rhinos up front as bunkers.
> The terrain was excellent with some cover for my Stormraven.

> No BS squads succumb to the Red Thirst.
> One of the assault Marine sergeants is blessed by the Sanguinor and the Priest joins that squad in reserve.

1st TURN CSM:
> Everything sits still except for one rhino which immobilized itself (Berzerkers).

0 kp CSM - 0 kp BS

2nd turn - CSM:
> Pop smoke on all rhinos & dreads.
> Mobile rhinos move 1".

2nd turn - BS: (no red thirst)
Assault squad with Sanguinor's Blessing arrives and jumps behind cover.

0 kp CSM - 0 kp BS

3rd turn CSM:
> Mobile rhinos move 1".

2nd turn BS:
> Everything else comes in from reserve.
> Stormraven alpha strikes one rhino and destroys it.
> VV use HI to destroy another rhino.

0 kp CSM - 2 kp BS

3rd turn CSM:
> All shooting on VV, one Vanguard Vet survives and breaks. VV falls back 9" and will regroup,

3rd turn BS:
> VV regroups and charges immobilized rhino destroying it with meltabombs.
> Stormraven moves flatout and destroys another rhino.

0 kp CSM - 4 kp BS

4th turn CSM:
> Khorne Berzerkers shoot down last VV.
> Lash Prince charges Stormraven and destroys it.

4th turn BS:
> Sanguinor charges one squad of Berszerkers and destroys them (Berzerkerz had taken some wounds from destroyed rhinos).
> Epistolary and Honor Guard charge one Prince and Defiler, destroying both.
> Furioso charges Chaos dreadnaught - drawn combat.
> Assault Marines charge rhino and one squad of Berzerkers, destroying the rhino.

2 kp CSM - 8 kp BS

The game continues through to the 7th turn. BS destroy all enemy troops and CSM cannot make up the difference in kps.

Final Results:

} Blood Saints win primary and all three tie breakers for the massacre.
} End of game CSM had left one Prince and a defiler. Blood Saints have left one assault squad, Sanguinary Priest, Epistolary and Honor Guard.

This game I was using my perphipal attack tactics. My opponent castled so I could not play the Counter Punch style of DoA tactics.

Blood Angels Fan Fiction "Ripple"

Here is a link to a 40k short story I'm currently writing over on the 40k Wrecking Crew forums:

http://40kwreckingcrew.aceboard.com/331128-607-4848-0-Ripple-short-fiction.htm

(Sorry, the link editor is not working so you'll have to cut and paste if you want to take a look.)

It's about a race of eldar Exodites living on a beautiful maiden world that have a close encounter with an ancient Librarian from a Blood Angels successor chapter, the Blood Saints. The Blood Saint is mentioned in their mythos as an avatar of destruction that will either save their race or doom them all.

It's been fun to write and will be wrapped up soon. If you enjoy 40k fan fiction you might like it.

Sanguinary Guard Project Part VI * Standard Bearer Fidelis

Initiate Fidelis
Brother Fidelis is the Chapter's Standard Bearer. Fidelis has the great honor of carrying the holy standard into battle and is a focal point for the entire army. The standard was woven back on Baal Secundus by a blind Saint using long strands of highly polished gold intertwined with raw platinum. The Chapter insignia is the symbol for infinity and hides a divine mystery dating back to ancient Terra, which is only learned when a privileged battle brother joins the rank of Sanguinary Guard and is raised to the rank of an Initiate. As long as the standard is held aloft by Brother Fidelis the Blood Saints will not break. The role of the standard bearer is very dangerous as the veteran must fight with only one free gauntlet and many have died serving in this function. Brother Fidelis' Angelus Bolter is mounted on his free wrist, he is so adept that he can both shoot and fight with his Glaive Encarmine using the same arm. Only the bravest veterans are selected as the Standard Bearer and upon death in battle another black candle is lit back on Baal Secundus byCommander Dante to pay homage to their great valor. Brother Fidelis seems to have an uncanny lucky streak, often surviving extreme misfortune by some odd twist of fate, and has served as the Standard Bearer longer than any other before him.

Sanguinary Guard Project Part V * Void Walker

Void Walker
The Void Walker is mystery to most of the Chapter as his true origins are unknown, even to other members of the Sanguinary Guard. The Void Walker's armor is fitted with an ancient and coveted power fist capable of leveling dreadnaughts with one mighty blow. Only the Blood Saint's Chapter Master knows of this Initiate's origin and it has been quietly rumored he is either a cloned son or dark doppelgänger from an alternate universe. It is the duty of the Void Walker to destroy enemies impervious to the Glaive Encarmine onceclose combat has begun. Often in battle he seems to remain unseen only showing himself at the precise moment to punch his armored fist through the exposed rear armor of enemy dreadnaughts. The Void Walker has even toppled mighty daemon princes, sending them back to the cold embrace of the warp. As his true name is unknown his title is seldom spoken and then only in a hushed whisper. The Void Walker is said to have an extremely violent temper, often not wanting to leave the battlefield only until the very last of the enemy have been purged by brutal death.

Sanguinary Guard Project Part IV * Neophyte

The Neophyte

Andromeda is the newest edition to the Blood Saint's Sanguinary Guard and is also currently the youngest. Andromeda served as a terminator first before being called to join this most elite cadre. Andromeda is haunted by dark visions of death and seems to have a touch of pre sight. Often either the Chapter Master or Bellum Aquila will confer with him on the eve of battle to learn if his latest vision might shed some useful insight. Great things are expected of Andromeda and it is thought by many that he will one day advance to the rank of Captain if he can survive long enough.

Sanguinary Guard Project Part III * Captain Mortalis

Captain Mortalis
Captain Mortalis leads the Blood Saints Second Company and is an expert in the art of extreme jump warfare. On a few seldom occasions the Chapter Master will call upon Mortalis to lead his Sanguinary Guard into battle for protracted durations operating behind the enemy lines. Captain Mortalis is an expert at guerrilla tactics launching lightning quick assaults into the rear of enemy formations to turn a battle or break the foes' will by destroying a key unit. Captain Mortalis is the only member of the Chapter to have served as long as the Chapter Master and as such wears an ancient venerated suit of artificer armor that was crafted back before the days of the dark heresy. His armor is fitted with a tiny golden chalice that holds one rare drop of blood from Sanguinius. As such his armor is impervious to attacks which would utterly render other suits and is sometimes whispered to grant eternal life.

Captain Mortalis was the first Initiate selected for his Chapter's Sanguinary Guard. During the Battle of Everlong only Mortalis and one other Initiate returned. The following saga was found carved into the trunk of the Eternal Tree some years later which was duly recorded and is believed to have been left behind by Captain Mortalis in tribute to the three who died...

King god of southern clime
Greatest creature so divine
Sends for watching land below
Ravens fly for him to know

Took off from a greater tree
Higher, higher flying free
Sounds of thunder in the sky
Up above three ravens fly

In our time, ravens three
Passing over you and me
Whisper to their only master
What to come before and after

Shadow casted snowy ground
Shape of ravens might be found
At his head ravens rest
Stranger silent as his guest

Words for ear of ancient god
Carried home by wings so proud
Stare at the sky as evening come
Sky is dark and ravens gone

Sanguinary Guard Project Part II * Bellum Aquila

Bellum Aquila
Bellum's name is an honor bestowed upon him by the Chapter Master and literally means War Hawk. Bellum had succumbed to the Black Rage, which is very rare for the Blood Saints. On the eve of battle while the Death Company Chaplain was preparing his lost brothers for war Bellum had a vision of a peaceful angel clad in glowing golden robes whom whispered muted prayers to him freeing the War Hawk from the dark curse. Bellum is gifted with an extremely high pitched piercing war cry that is amplified by his helmet and forces the enemy to cover their ears or suffer a momentary loss of hearing. Several times Bellum has been called upon to lead the Sanguinary Guard into battle when they are not serving as a retinue for the Chapter Master. All attacks lead by Bellum are swift and crushing. Under his command the Sanguinary Guard are often called upon to assassinate the enemy commander, which they will do by dropping in from a low flying thunderhawk. Bellum carries the squad's other ancient infernus pistol and is also a crack shot. Many unfortunate tanks have been breached by the War Hawk's fickle shot so that his squad can quickly come to grips with the enemy within and finish them.

Blood Saints Sanguinary Guard Project

I got the pictures back this afternoon. They look awesome. Cropped them in Photoshop and saved them to a folder on my Mac. Unfortunately it appears the external modem I use to connect to the Internet is fried. I was unable to connect unfortunately. I will be bringing my Mac with me while I'm away on a business trip this week and connect to the Internet in the hotel tomorrow evening so I can post the article. I've written some background material for each of the Initiates as well which I'll post with the pictures.

The photos came out great. I can't wait to get them up on the Internet and see what everyone has to say. Sorry for the delay... We are almost there now.

: )
