Genghis Con 5th Round Batrep vs. Tyranids

So the final round was versus Tyranids. The primary win condition was to have the most killpoints within 6" of the table center. This looked like a no win situation for me as my opponent could simply march his whole army up towards the center of the table. Deployment was Pitched Battle.

Here is my opponent's army as best as I can remember:

Hive Tyrant
3x Tyrant Guard
Prime - dual bone swords

3x Zoanthrope
3x Hive Guard

Trygon
Biovore

Tervigon
10x termagant
Tervigon
10x termagant
10x termagant

Genghis Con 4th Round Batrep vs. Mech Eldar

My fourth game in the GT was versus mech eldar and the mission was Seize Ground with six objectives, each objective had to be at least 12" away from any other marker so basically you end up with two rows of fairly evenly spaced markers. Deployment was Dawn of War.

I've always had a psychological disconnect versus mechdar because the army is very fast and can counter the speed of a DoA army. This was a tough mission for me but I had a couple of advantages:

1) I won the roll for deployment and opted to go second.
2) My only unit to arrive on the bottom of the 2nd turn was the VV which greatly reduced the amount of shooting from the eldar army.

I viewed the game more like a chess match using my movement phases to keep spread out across the table and then made my big move on the bottom of the 6th turn to take and contest objectives. It all came down to the VV... they had to wreck a Wave Serpent full of Dire Avengers to deny the eldar that objective so I would hold one more than my opponent. I was hitting on sixes and one hit got through with the sergeant's thunderhammer - I wrecked the Wave Serpent and just managed to win the game by that one objective... So I would be playing the final match versus Tyranids on the second table. I'll go into a lot more detail regarding the final. Like I said the fourth game was mostly movement so I don't see much of a point in breaking it down turn by turn.

Genghis Con 3rd round batrep vs. Space Wolves

Here is the third batrep versus Space Wolves. You know you're gonna have to face them sooner or later. The primary mission goal was Victory Points and deployment was Pitched Battle. If you destroyed your opponent's highest point unit they counted as double their victory points! My opponent is a friend I see a lot when playing on the road so I knew we would have some fun for sure. This was the first game of the second day. Here is his army list to the best of my recollection:

Rune Priest #1: Living Lightning & JAWS
Rune Priest #2: Murderous Hurricane & JAWS

Note
Jump infantry is immune to Jaws of the World Wolf so that kind of neutered his two HQ. I used to Dante's curse to nerf the Rune Priest with Murderous Hurricane hoping he would eventually Peril and die from an exploded head (think the movieScanners).

10x Wolfguard terminators: 8x( power sword & stormbolter) & 2x (cyclone missile launcher & power fist) <- most expensive unit 5x Grey Hunter: meltagun & plasma pistol - razorback: twin linked heavy bolter turret (Rune Priest #1 attached) 5x Grey Hunter: plasmagun & plasma pistol - razorback: twin linked heavy bolter turret 8x Grey Hunter: plasmagun & power sword - drop pod 6x Long Fang: 4x missile launcher & lascannon 6x Long Fang: 4x missile launcher & lascannon 5x Long Fang: 3x missile launcher & lascannon - razorback: twin linked heavy bolter turret (Rune Priest #2 attached)

Genghis Con batreps - 2nd Match versus Necrons

The second mission I was paired off against a Necron army. My opponent had some really hot dice in the first two turns and I was feeling nervous. The Mission objective was Capture and Control with Pitched Battle for deployment. My opponent won the roll for deployment and chose to go second. I remembered some advice from DV8 over on the Bolter and Chainsword Blood Angels forum and followed it. I placed my objective in a table corner as far away as possible from where I thought he'd deploy his army and held everything in reserve. My plan was to flank him on two sides and sweep in taking his objective placed in the middle of his DZ.

Genghis Con batreps - Blood Saints DoA

Here is my first batrep. I apologize that I don't take pictures when I play now. All opponent's army lists are to the best of my recollection.

Note
This was my best performance in a GT. Lady Luck smiled upon me when I needed the rolls. All five of my opponents were fantastic - no rules disputes and five very fun games. I don't think you could ask for more.

So onward HO !!!

Ghenghis Con Aftermath & Tactical Analysis of my DoA army

Well it was a great weekend and my best performance so far at a GT. Most all of the armies there were painted and lots of nice looking ones to boot. I enjoyed every game and never once had to call over a TO. All my opponents were awesome.

Day One results from Genghis Con

I managed to win my first two games. The first game was versus Tyranids with a NidStar (Swarmlord, Tyrant Guard and a Prime) - mission primary goal was Annilihation - I focused my assaults on the termagants spawned by a pair of Tervigons and played keep away from the NidStar... The NidStar was closing in as some of my assaults bogged down versus Hive Guard and a Tervigon but time was called just before they could reach my battle line.

The second game was versus Necrons - mission primary goal was Capture and Control... I set my objective way back in a corner and focused all my units on assaulting the Necrons, taking their objective and forcing a fifth turn phase out.

Genghis Con

Hi everyone. I'll be flying over to Denver tomorrow afternoon to play in the 40k GT at Genghis Con. There are two games on Friday night and then three more on Saturday. I'll be bringing my Descent of Angels army (1850 points). This is my second major event playing the new Blood Angels, the first time was at BoLScon last year. 1850 points made me stop and pause as I'm used to playing 2000 points down here in Florida. I thought about it quite a bit then decided to remove the Stormraven and Furioso from my 2k list. This freed up quite a few points and I have had several local events to test out the new all jump infantry list. I know players like to keep their lists a secret in general but I've always been fairly open about what I play. The new list has Dante with a squad of Sanguinary Guard as his bodyguard plus two full squads of assault Marines as the core. I also have the Sanguinor as my second HQ and and a squad of Vanguard veterans. These are units I have a lot of experience playing so I'm feeling quite comfortable. I've played against enough Wolfstars and mech IG lists so I feel ready for the GT. I've looked at all the missions and to be honest they all look really good for a DoA army. There are lots of great gamers in CO so I know I'll have some tough battles ahead over the weekend and it probably won't be all Space Wolves and Imperial Guard. My one loss at BoLScon came against a brilliant mech eldar list, so believe me when I say know there are plenty of other tough armies out there.

At first I felt naked playing without my cherished Stormraven. My 2k list is totally tweaked now and I know every trick in the proverbial book. It was an adjustment to start playing without it. The Stormraven brings a lot to a jump list but I'm ready now and won't miss it. I'm using Genghis Con to seriously test the new list in preparation. Don't get me wrong - I'm certainly not looking past the mile high city in anticipation for the Windy City. I think it's going to be a lot of fun.

Not much else to say at this point other than I'll try to post my results here on the blog. There are quite a few of my club mates from the 40k Wrecking Crew who'll be there so I'll definitely be in good company.
