Tampa Bay 40k Team Tournament Batreps

Hi all !!

I was over in Tampa yesterday to play in the team tourney - 1500 points per player so 3000 points per team. My partner (John Lennon) and I were planning to run two Tyranid armies but found out upon arrival that teams couldn't use use the same codex... Luckily I had my Grey Knights in the car so I quickly put together a Draigowing army featuring three Venerable psyflemen dreadnaughts. John's army featured a Flyrant with Ancient Adversary, two Tervigons, two full broods of Hive Guard, gargoyles and lots of gaunts. I had planned to run a Tyranid army with three broods of Yrmgarls and large genestealer broods with Broodlords... Oh well it was not to be.

The reason why you couldn't play two armies from the same codex is that at their last team tournament two brothers showed up with Bugz and were fielding the Doom in both lists which turned out to be quite the terror. I also heard that in general people didn't like certain combos teams were using for dual codex armies.

It turned out that the Draigowing-Tyranid alliance was quite powerful though so all was not lost. The three Venerable brother dreadnaughts were a true terror to behold gunning down lots of armor and infantry over the course of the three games.

40k Team Tourney next weekend in Tampa • Descent of the Tendril

Me and my good buddy John Lennon will be hooking up to form our collective tendril of super charged Tyranids. I believe we each get to bring a 1500 point army. John is regarded by some as an Avatar of the Swarmlord. I feel pretty lucky he picked me to be on his team. I'll be posting thoughts on my list and hopefully John will provide his feedback as well.

One wound away from the big win !!

Played in the team tourney yesterday with my good buddy and fellow 40k Wrecking Crew member, the Hod. We were running Team Twilight, BA (BBF) and SW (Hod). My 1250 point list can be found in my previous article here... I brought an electronic copy of my army list in iRoster 40k on my iPad - everyone was cool with that (of course I had my codex but never had to break it out).

The Hod was running a drop pod list - Rune Priest (JAWS), 3x Grey Hunter in pods with terminator Wolfguard pack leaders, and two squads of Long Fangs (mix of missile launchers and lascannons). There was definitely some good synergy between our two armies. I've always known that jump infantry and drop pods work quite well together. The pods full of Grey Hunters are an excellent shock troop. They come in, blow things up and the enemy must react... Or you can land on an objective and force the enemy to come to you. Hod had one Wolfguard in terminator armor (combi melta and chainfist) in each squad of Grey Hunters, the Rune Priest ran with one of these squads.

Adepticon 40k Team Tourney

So today we ran with with the strong Chaos theme:

3x Chaos Space Marines & 1x Chaos Daemons

Overall results were 4W - 2L - 2D

Not bad.

First round was versus Tyranids & IG (2 wins)
Second round was versus Witch Hunters & Space Marines (2 draws)
Third round was versus dark eldar & CSM (1 win & 1 loss)
Fourth round was versus IG & Black Templars (1 win & 1 loss)

Our opponents in the second round had very good tactics making good use of their troops. In the third round my Chaos Talon took out all but one enemy transport the first turn with a very strong bombing run (I really enjoy being able to use fliers at Adepticon). The fourth round my partner and I got crushed my the IG/BT team... Had to go second and they pulled off a great alpha strike.

Tomorrow is the 40k championship RTT. I'll be playing something fun.

Tomorrow is the first day of Adepticon!

I have really been looking forward to this event for a long time! I think this will be my favorite Adepticon ever. I have put together my own team for the 40k team tournament and we have some really nice looking armies. I'll be playing in the Gladiator on Friday as well and I'm really looking forward to that as well. I'll try to post some reports here each day through Sunday.
