INAT FAQ Lite Poll Results

The results are in and the verdict has been passed down from the jury... I will be working on the INAT FAQ Lite. Once complete it will be available to the general public.

The INAT FAQ Lite will be much easier to use for tournament gamers facilitating quicker resolution of rules disputes. Sections such as Apocalypse will be removed.

As some of you might know I have not been a big fan of the INAT FAQ following the council's initial rulings on the 5ed Tyranid codex. For instance DoM could target enemy units embarked inside vehicles... I just couldn't wrap my brain around that one. The reasoning provided for the ruling did not really make anymore sense to me either so I gave up on the document. In retrospect though there was a time when GW gave credit to the INAT council in their own FAQs for previous efforts. One of my biggest problems with the INAT FAQ has always been its voluminous size and the virtual repetition of certain sections over and over again (e.g., various Space Marine codices share many of the same rules). If I am going to use a FAQ then I want to read it from front to back and know it inside out because I am a competitive gamer. So I am wondering if there is any interest in a lite version of the INAT FAQ.

I have the Word document and could parse it down into something I think is reasonable with no changes to the existing rulings. Note that I would delete sections such as Apocalypse and just keep it solely focused on 40k. I do lots of technical writing for my job and have written many papers over the course of my career so I know I could do a good job. If you are interested then go ahead and vote in my poll. If you are not interested then go ahead and vote anyways - all things being equal.  :  )

So if I see a reasonable interest then I will go for it as they say.

#8 Dream - INAT FAQ Lite

I was chatting with Matthias of Adepticon fame, Greg Sparks of Toledo fame and Jon Regul of Dakka fame over on Matthias' blog about the INAT FAQ. I have been a proponent of an INAT FAQ Lite version for some time now. Jon has sent me the latest version in the Word format. I am going to create two lite versions:

1) Lite with rules changes

2) Lite with all rules changes removed

Neither will be called INAT FAQ but both versions will be made available to everyone.

Why I am against the use of INAT FAQ in the Ard Boyz

Okay so last year I said I was okay with but this year I am dead set against it. The same set of rules should be used each and every round. Fortunately the Adepticon council is not strong enough to force us to use INAT FAQ in the state of Florida. One of my biggest issues with this FAQ are the horrible rules interpretations they released for the Tyranid codex. To me it's unfair that the Chicago Battle Bunker can force other gamers from outside that area to have to play Adepticon-Hammer. The FAQ has more pages than the 5ed rulebook... What is up with that??

We need to rally together now & be focused letting GW know that we don't want the INAT FAQ forced upon us again. Last year I gave it a chance but it did not work for me.

Adepticon 2010... 39 days left til kickoff

I'm not going to write up a detailed syllabus... I'll just briefly describe what am I planning to do there:

•Thursday
Travel to Chicago late afternoon, check in to hotel and chill, meet friends and drink beer.

•Friday/Gladiator
I've got my super Forgeworld unit again. This will be my last Gladiator so I'd like to go out strong. Last year I did okay but I know I could have done better and that's why I'm playing again.

•Saturday/40k Team Tourney
The year before my team was playing on the top table in the final round and I'd like another shot at the gold ring. I have a solid team with solid armies plus all the frill; should be very interesting and I'm interested to see who we face off against. Last year my team played Dakka Detachment #1 and Cold Steel Mercs... It was my worst year in the team event but we are ready this year for sure!

•Sunday
Hang out and watch people play the new Tyranids in the championship RTT. Its a great way to learn about new armies watching the veterans and I learned a lot last year about daemons.

•Monday
Fly to Texas for a conference.

That's it. If you are planning to go let me know and maybe we can drink some together. Despite what some people have to say Adepticon is the best event in the country and has something for everyone. I wouldn't miss it for anything in the world.
