The Chaos Terminator

This article is intended to shed some light on using terminators from the Chaos Space Marine codex. If you follow my blog you'll know I'm a big fan of running a pure terminator army for 30k. While you can't run Chaos terminators as a troop choice they are still an excellent unit and in many ways the equivalent to a 30k terminator in Catap armor. Both have a 2+ armor save and 4++ invulnerable save if you take the Mark of Tzeentch for the Chaos terminator. The 30k terminator is Slow and Purposeful while the Chaos terminator is Relentless and can Deep Strike. Neither is fearless.

The point cost is close but I'd take the Veterans of the Long War upgrade to boost the Chaos terminator's leadership. 30k has access to some exotic wargear like Volkite chargers and plasma blasters - you won't be able to field either in 40k army but I don't think it's a big loss plus the Chaos terminator has access to cheap combi weapons.

A big advantage to 40k is the basic Chaos terminator can be armed with a power fist and lightning claw for dirt cheap versus any other unit in the game and you can't do this with 30k terminators. So you get the +1 attack for the Chaos terminator since both are specialist weapons. If you what to save points then just go with a power axe and combi bolter. A Tzneetch terminator with a power axe is quite formidable... You've got the 4++ invulnerable save which is a lot better than 5++, a ranged weapon and a S5 AP2 melee weapon. The ability to Deep Strike is huge as well.
