Repost * Tau Hunter Cadre Formation condundrum solved by Reecius

Usually I think people make too big a deal about the rules but this is a case which I do not. Reecius from FGL has written an excellent article explaining how he was able to solve this current condundrum and it is highly recommended reading:

Pride

I'm sickened

I know I've been betrayed

But I keep ignoring
The warning signs

You tell me
That I'm not beneath you
But you act above me

Knives in my spine

Now, with all the money in the world
You can't buy my respect

Yeah, it's just a matter of pride
But that's all I've got left

I reach up
For your hand as you stand
Looking down on me but
You turn your back

I believed you
Now everything that we had
That I thought was sacred
Has turned to black

Now, with all the money in the world
You can't buy my respect

Yeah, it's just a matter of pride
But that's all I've got left

The Future of 40k ?

So Tau basically is keeping all the same rules for existing units, got some new units and now have a host of new formations. Space Marines didn't really get any new units... Just some tweaks to their existing rules and new formations as well. So will this be the future for other new codices that release? It's great if you like your existing codex - I was really happy that Space Marines didn't really lose anything... But what about armies such as Chaos Space Marines ? We have all seen the new Khorne Daemonkin (KDK) codex... No new units and mostly no major changes to the rules for units overall. KDK did get some new rules and tweaks such as Blood Tithe and fearless daemons plus lots of formations. Honestly I am thinking this is how it's going to go down for Chaos Space Marines so let's hope for some really good formations - they really need something so that we will see actual Chaos Space Marines on the tables again.

Khorne Daemonkin ~2k army list

This is my new list.

Notes:

Herald has Grimoire of True Names (GoTN) to boost Hounds' invulnerable save to 3++... This can be further boosted to 2++ via a relic for the Typhon and stabilizes their invulnerable save should a 1 or 2 be rolled when rolling for the book.

KDK Lord is either Eternal Warrior (Blood Forged Armor) or can quickly reach S10 (Goredrinker). I'm leaning towards Goredrinker for the killing power to take down super heavies and gargantuan monstrous creatures. A variant to this list is to take another Chaos Lord for the KDK CAD to have both Blood Forged Armor and Goredrinker.

Happy hunting !!!

++ Selection Rules ++

Dreadclaw Access Point:
One access point beneath the hull. In practice, models disembark at ground level within 2" of the hull

Blood Feast:
Keep a track of the casualties infliced by the Goredrinker. At the start of the controlling players turn, consult the chart in Codex: Khorne Daemonkin for what effects are bestowed upon the blade (effects are cumulative until model is lost or game ends).

Blood for the Blood God!:
A Khorne Daemonkin army generates Blood Tithe points that the player keeps track of (up to a max of 8 Tithes). These Blood Tithes are earned by:

1. A unit containing this rule either being completely destroyed, or completely destroying an enemy unit.
2. A Character with this rule is either slain, or slays an enemy character in a challenge.

At the start of the player turn, the player may choose to spend the Blood Tithes (Blood Tithe chart is found in Codex: Khorne Daemonkin). The remaining Blood Tithes are then lost as part of the purchase. The player may still continue to harvest Tithe after all purchases.

Crushing Weight:
The Typhon adds +1 to all rolls on the Thunderblitz table when ramming or tank shocking.

Decapitating Blow:
Any roll of a 6 on the to-wound chart confers Instant Death.

Dreadhammer range:
The Dreadhammer has a range of 24" if it has moved in the previous movement phase, and 48" if it has not moved.

Drop Pod Assault:
A Kharybdis or Dreadclaw, and any unit they should transport, must always be held in reserve and always enters play using the Deep Strike rules, and counts as a Drop Pod for the wider use of the Drop Pod Assault rule for the army (applies to both the Kharybdis and Dreadclaw).

Heat Blast:
When a model with this rule arrives via Deep Strike, or later when operating as a skimmer in Hover mode, it may if its controlling player wishes inflict a Heat Blast attack. If it does so, then models it is transporting may not disembark or embark on the turn this attack is used.

Heat Blast (Deep Strike):
Immediately after the model lands, measure a radius of 3"+D3" horizontally outwards from its main hull (do not count any landing struts, etc). All models caught in the blast suffer a Str 6 AP 5 hit with no cover saves. Vehicles are struck on their weakest Armour value. This is counted as a flamer-based attack.

Heat Blast (Fire Sweep):
If the controlling player wishes, any unit the model passes directly over (i.e., falls directly under its hull during its Movement phase) suffers D6 Str 5 AP 5 hits with no cover saves. Vehicles are struck on their weakest Armour value. This is counted as a flamer-based attack. Hits from this attack are distributed across a unit as the player suffering the attack wishes. Roll a D6 each time this attack is inflicted. On a result of a 1, the Drop Pod itself suffers a penetrating hit.

Dreadclaw Transport Capacity:
Can transport 10 models.

Rhino Transport Capacity: Rhino:
Can transport 10 models.

Khorne Daemonkin • Home Coming

If you know me you know I am a follower of the Blood God. Of all the Chaos powers Khorne has been the most blessed to slaughter. I will be playing KDK exclusively now to show my infernal devotion to the Blood God and all things Khorne. Followers of the way do not cry like little babies or ask for any exception. If you are a true follower then you understand.

Beware !

BeakyCon5 Report • Aftermath

The power fist shown above was generously donated by Chris Anderson who unfortunately was unable to attend. This was his award he won at the ATC for best general, which we gave as part of the prize support for our own best general.

Day 1 1st Game Kill Shot !!!

There was lots of very cool and beautiful armies this year. the top three awards were for theme, best painted and best general.

The top ten for competitive ranking are as follows:

Eldar piloted by Shane Ragland finished in first place for the competitive track featuring three Wraithknights and lots of eldar jetbikes along with the jetbike seer council.

Second place for the competitive track went to Flyrantspam lead by Myles Aderhold who also won the award for the best Tyranid army. Myles and Shane ended up playing each twice since they finished in the top two spots for the competitive ranking going into the final round.

There were two beautiful Tyranid armies but unfortunately the player fielding the green swarm (Justin Pearson) had to leave after the first day was over.

The third ranked player for the competitive track was Jeff Cooper with his amazing pure Grey Knights army. Jeff beat some really tough armies only taking one loss throughout both days and won the award for Emperor's Shadows. In his final match versus eldar allied with dark eldar I thought he was going to be tabled but he managed to make one heck of an amazing comeback and secure the win !

Kolt Corey took the highly coveted award for best Space Marine army and there was quite a few Space Marine armies this year. Here is his beautiful Space Wolves...

Another great looking army was Aaron Couture's Sisters of Battle featuring two Inperial Knights and Coteaz. Aaron ended up the sixth rank player in the competitive track and also won award for best hobbyist.

The award for the best painted army went to Jordan Sorchevich with his stunning Khorne Daemonkin army featuring a Greater Brass Scorpion that was absolutely amazing !!! Jordan also finished in fourth place for the competive track as well.

Our top award went to Christian Adorno who was chosen by his peers as having the best theme for his high flying drop pod Blood Angels army. Chris' army was by far the most popular.

Here are some of the other armies...

Eric Beard's Salamanders

Tyler's Orks featuring a Stompa

Eric Moreno's Necrons

Jon Rusten's Deathwing

Kurt William's Necrons

Day 2 - Blood Angels versus Grey Knights

Day 2 - Blood Angels versus Salamanders

Day 2 - Marc Parker's Green Tide versus Myles' Flyrants

Day 2 - Jordan's Daemonkin Tactical Withdrawal from Shane's Eldar

This was personally my favorite BeakyCon and we are planning to hold next year's event at Darkside Comics in Sarasota again. A big thanks to Chris Winans for all his awesome support and also to Jason Cooley and Rich Moore for their time both days to fill in as ringers. I think the event overall was a big success and I appreciate all the positive feedback received on the survey.

I also want to mention the awesome support from Chip Boyd and how well Torrent of Fire handled the pairings and rankings.
